In California, the Regional Water Quality Control Boards and the County Health Officials are very interested in the IWS Denitrification Upflow Filter. IWS currently has three projects in the permitting process in California that will utilize the IWS Upflow Filter. Peter C. The Total Nitrogen limits being required by the Regional Water Board in many areas of California are 10 mg/l, with some as low as 3 mg/l. Although 10 mg/l is the national drinking water standard, the agencies are compelled to sometimes lower them further in environmentally impacted areas, such as Malibu, CA.
